Alexa Worsick

PADI Scuba Diving Instructor and Liveaboard Cruise Director

How did you start getting into scuba diving?

Ever since I was very young I’ve always loved being in the water and interested in marine life. My father was a fisherman and later became a scallop diver so the ocean was a big part of my life growing up. As a kid, I was always snorkeling on holidays so it was only natural that I learned to scuba dive.

Where did you get scuba certified?

I took my Open Water course in England when I was 15 years old but I’ve never dived there since. The rest of my certifications I took in the Red Sea and Indonesia.

What’s your current scuba certification?

I’m an Open Water Scuba Instructor with a couple of Instructor Specialities, both PADI and SSI. Currently, I am working as a Cruise Director on a liveaboard that sails around Indonesia so am not actively teaching anymore.

What do you love most about scuba diving?

While the marine life encounters and epic experiences we have underwater are incredible, the thing I have always loved most about scuba diving is the people. Scuba diving brings together people from all over the world with different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences that you never would get to meet otherwise. Not only my students or guests but also the local crews who make it all possible. Scuba diving gives you a community and friends all over the world.

What do you do in your free time outside of diving?

Outside of scuba diving, I spend my time freediving, hiking, or practicing yoga. Anything that keeps me active and out in nature. I love to travel and explore new places, especially in Indonesia where I’ve been based for the last 5 years.
